UNINSURED /UNDERINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE

WHAT IS UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED COVERAGE?

Uninsured Motorist coverage, or “UM”, is a type of auto insurance that covers you in an accident where the other driver doesn’t have insurance.

Underinsured Motorist coverage, or “UIM”, is a type of auto insurance coverage that protects you if you’re involved in an accident with a driver who carries the legal minimum amount of liability insurance, but it’s not enough to cover all your losses.

WHO DOES IT COVER?

Uninsured Motorist coverage and Underinsured Motorist coverage will cover:

  • You
  • Your Family Members
  • Passengers in Your Car
  • Others driving your car with permission

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST INSURANCE COVERAGE?

There is no requirement that the additional must be purchased, it can be rejected. However, there must be a “signed written rejection”.

The rejection must be in writing. If the auto insurance company cannot provide proof of written rejection, then they must provide the minimum coverage. We have been successful recovering coverage for many clients because there was NOT a “signed written rejection”.

DO I REALLY NEED THIS COVERAGE?

I highly recommend that every driver carry this insurance coverage. If you have any questions about a specific case, please don’t hesitate to contact my office at 817-444-4878.
